Roberta “Bobbie” Harrison, although born in the Bronx, New York, now comfortably residing in suburban South Carolina, has been writing poetry since she was in elementary school. She took a pause from verse to publish a semi-autobiographical novel, Country Summers, in 2011. She’s currently working on a new historical novel, about her maternal grandfather, a venerable photojournalist.
Bobbie took time off from writing to care for her ailing husband, who died in 2019. It was during the time of his illness that she resumed writing poetry, focusing on the journey of loss and grieving which populate this collection.
Bobbie is happily surrounded by many dear friends who are as “close as family” in her beloved Southern abode. She is the proud mother of four exceptional children and three extremely talented grandchildren. They live in various eastern states, each about an hour’s air trip from her home.
“Bobbie cuts through the fantasy that freedom brings when you are ultimately on your own as memories become your truth. Her poems progress toward hope by providing a healing touch and recovery from intimate loss. Bobbie outlines what her future looks like in spartan prose while the past is reduced to its lowest common denominator. Recovery comes through building new goals ... as opposed to retreat from life itself.
”I highly recommend this book to those who are grieving for a loved one who has passed away, especially a spouse. Half A Couple, is a tool for healing.”
